The Full Detail

Everything about ShopTrail, in full.

The AI concierge in detail, every capability broken down by who runs it, what this platform does not cover, and every question people ask before they contact us. The short version, the pricing and the comparison table, is on the main ShopTrail page.

One reminder before the detail: Included means the platform runs it, no separate account and no separate bill; Connected means it runs on an account that belongs to you, set up when you first come on board.

The AI Concierge

A shop assistant that has read your catalogue.

Every store on this platform comes with an AI concierge that talks with your shoppers, right on the site. It is answering real customer questions on our live reference store as you read this.

What it does

  • Answers questions about your products, your materials and how to care for them, in conversation, on your website
  • Only recommends what you actually have in stock right now, so a shopper is never sent to a product you do not sell
  • You write how it talks, how it describes your business and how it should behave, yourself, in your own words
  • You change what it says about your brand by filling in a form and saving it

Two things you cannot switch off, on purpose

Two things are built in and cannot be turned off from any settings screen, including by us: the concierge only talks about what you actually sell, and it never pretends to be a real person. Both matter more to your customers' trust than a slightly more flexible settings screen would.

What the same thing costs on other e-commerce solutions

On other e-commerce solutions, something like this is usually a separate paid extra, billed every year on top of your plan and everything else you're already paying for. Here it is simply part of the licence.

What You Get

A managed store, run for you.

The licence buys the software and all the ongoing work of keeping it running, which is the part most shop owners only think about after something has already gone wrong. Below that are the handful of services that run on accounts in your own name.

Included

Provided and run by us, with nothing extra for you to sign up for. Most of it, you can change yourself, without waiting on a developer.

An offers page, and discount codes with real limits

A page listing your active discount codes, and you choose which ones appear there. A code can also be limited to a set number of uses per customer, and restricted to orders paid upfront only, or to cash on delivery only.

An announcement bar you write yourself

The banner across the top of your shop is your own wording and formatting, with the colours checked so they stay readable, at a speed you choose, and with your pick of how one message changes into the next.

Words you can change yourself

Most of the wording on your shop is something you write and edit yourself, with changes reaching the live site within seconds rather than needing a developer. A gifting page, and any other page like it, works exactly the same way.

Your own wording in search results

You can write your own version of the line that shows up when someone finds your shop through a search engine, for individual pages, and for products across your whole catalogue.

Full ownership of your data

Everything you sell, every customer and every order is kept in a standard, ordinary format that belongs to you. There's no charge for taking a copy of your own data, and no limit on how often or how much of it you can read.

Visitor numbers that stay private

You can see how many people visit your shop and what they look at, without that information being handed over to an outside advertising company just so you can know how your store is doing.

Connected

These run on accounts that belong to you, set up when you first come on board. The login details, the pricing you agree and the data all stay yours, which is also why they keep working even if you ever stop working with us.

Taking payments

Cards, UPI, bank transfers and digital wallets, on your own account with your own payment provider, at the rate you agreed with them, paid straight into your own bank account. This is exactly how our live reference store takes payment today.

Keeping your books

Orders automatically create invoices in your own bookkeeping software, under your own GST registration, so your accounts and your tax filings come straight out of the system your accountant already uses.

Keeping track of customers

Every buyer and every enquiry is saved in your own customer list, with how much they've spent kept up to date, so whoever handles sales sees the same customer the shop does.

Deliveries

You can book a delivery with any of the courier companies you already work with, on your own account and your own agreed rates, all from one screen. Labels, tracking and cancelling a delivery all come back to that same screen too.

Order updates

Order updates go out through your own messaging account, registered in your own business's name, as Indian rules for this kind of messaging require anyway. Your customers see your shop's name on the message, and the phone number stays yours.

Why we do it this way

The same reason as above, in every one of these: holding the account in our name instead of yours would put us between you and your own money, your own parcels and your own customers.

Scope

What this does not cover.

Two things this platform does not do, and we would rather say so now than six weeks into working together.

Setting up takes a conversation

There is no sign-up form here. Every shop is its own separate setup that we build, move your data into and put live, which is real work with a conversation at the start of it. If getting started today is what you need, the big self-serve platforms are genuinely better at that, and we will tell you so.

A marketplace is a different product

This runs one brand's own shop. A site where many different sellers list their own products, each paid separately and each paying us a commission, is a different kind of product, and we do not build that.

What the biggest platforms have

Millions of shoppers who already have their card details saved with the biggest platforms, which makes checkout faster and more of those shoppers actually finish buying. A dedicated shopping app already on millions of phones, which helps new customers discover your shop and track their orders, at no extra cost. Tills and card machines for a physical shop, built in and linked to the same stock count as the website. Selling in different currencies and handling customs duties for different countries, built in. A huge marketplace of extra add-ons for almost anything you could want to connect. Built-in business loans and advertising tools to help you reach the right customers. And an AI assistant to help you, the shop owner, run the business. Ours is built to answer your customers. If any of those decides it for you, that is a reasonable decision.

Common Questions

Things people ask before they contact us.

What does it cost?

A flat annual licence, quoted after we have seen what your shop needs. On other e-commerce solutions, the same result is assembled from separate paid features, each with its own bill on top of the base plan. We take no commission on your sales, on any payment method. Getting set up is a separate one-time fee, and it covers us doing the work: moving your existing shop across, building your own design and branding into the storefront, loading your products in with their photographs and descriptions, and setting your Cash on Delivery rules to the areas you actually serve. You pay it once. From the second year on, the licence is all that is left. The outside services that run on your own accounts, meaning taking payments, your bookkeeping subscription, courier accounts, text and chat messaging, and the cost of running the AI concierge, are billed to you directly by those companies and are not part of our licence.

Do you take a percentage of my sales?

We take no commission on your sales, on any payment method. Worth knowing for contrast: platforms that push their own preferred way of taking payments often add a percentage on top of the usual fee when you choose to use a different one instead, which is common for a shop based in India.

What is the difference between Included and Connected?

Included means the platform already has it and runs it, with no third party involved and no separate bill. Connected means it runs on an account in your own name, because things like taking payments or sending messages to customers are relationships that, by their nature, have to belong to the business trading under them. You can see real examples of both further up this page, under What You Get.

Can I leave and take my data with me?

Everything you sell, every customer and every order lives in a standard, ordinary format that belongs to you, and there's no charge for taking a copy of it or limit on how much you can look at. The Connected accounts are already in your own name, so nothing there even needs handing over. Exactly what you receive if we ever stop working together, and in what form, is written into the agreement before you sign, rather than left as a sentence on a web page. If we have not put it in writing, treat it as not promised.

What happens when something breaks?

Automatic checks watch the pages that matter, and we have tested both halves of that: that a real problem actually gets noticed, and that a person actually gets told about it. We set up a way to undo a change before we make it. Backups run daily and, once a week, we actually put one back together somewhere private to confirm it works. What we owe you in response time comes from the level of support you agree with us when you come on board, and that is written into a real document.

Why is there no free trial?

Because there is nothing to sign up to. Your shop is its own separate setup with its own web address, so putting one in front of you is real work, rather than a form and a spare row in somebody else's shared system. What we can do for free is walk you through everything on this page on a call, and answer specific questions about your own products. Our live reference store is public, so you can also go and try the AI concierge yourself before you even speak to us.

How long does it take to go live?

We do not have an honest figure to give you, and we would rather say that than invent one. One shop has gone live on this platform so far, and most of that time went into building the platform itself rather than setting up that particular shop, so it tells you very little about the next one. We work out a realistic date after seeing your products, your current setup and how much of your existing data has to move across.

Is this just a different skin on another platform?

No. ShopTrail is our own platform, which we run and host ourselves, with the Indian pieces written by us: Cash on Delivery zones, GST, couriers, WhatsApp, returns, FAQ blocks, the AI concierge and the rest. None of the big hosted platforms sits underneath it.

What happens to my existing store on another platform?

Moving your existing shop across is part of the one-time setup, and how much work it is depends entirely on what's in yours: products and images, past customers, order history, other pages of content, and making sure any links people already have to your shop keep working. We look at what you already have before quoting the work.

Tell us what you sell.

The useful first conversation is a short one: what you sell, where you sell it, what you are paying for extra features today, and which of the things on this page you would actually use. If the numbers do not work in your favour, we will tell you so on that call rather than three months later.
